Liverpool FC legend claims Philippe Coutinho is no longer in first team
John Aldridge believes that Philippe Coutinho has some work to do to force himself back into the first team at Liverpool FC
John Aldridge has claimed that Philippe Coutinho is not in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans at Liverpool at the moment.
The Brazilian playmaker’s future has been a relentless source of speculation throughout the summer transfer window as he emerged as a prime target for Barcelona following the sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain.
However, a move to the Camp Nou failed to materialise for Coutinho as Liverpool opted to keep hold of the 25-year-old attacker beyond the summer.
Coutinho has not featured for Liverpool so far this season due to a back injury, but it seems that Aldridge feels that the playmaker will have some work to do in getting himself back into the first-team at Anfield.
Aldridge wrote on Twitter: “Now Coutinho stays the 2nd team at the min is, Karius or Ward? Clyne, Gomes, Klavan, Moreno, Milner, Ox, Lallana, Sturridge, Solanke, Coutinho! Not bad!!”
It remains to be seen whether Coutinho could be involved when Liverpool return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime with a crunch clash against Manchester City at The Etihad.
The Reds are currently second in the table after their 4-0 thrashing of Arsenal last time out.
