Alan Shearer is tipping Liverpool FC to pip Manchester City to the Premier League title this season.

The Reds are aiming to go one step further than they did last term when they go for the title this season under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool FC finished in second place in the table and just a point behind Manchester City in the title race as they missed out on the Premier League trophy.

The Merseyside outfit did manage to end last season on a positive note as they claimed a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final to lift their first piece of silverware under Klopp.

Manchester City beat Liverpool FC on penalties in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday afternoon as the Citizens won their first piece of silverware for the campaign.

England legend Shearer has been asked to pick his favourite for the title this term and the former striker seems to think that Liverpool FC may just shade Manchester City in the race for the top-flight crown.

Writing in his column for The Sun, Shearer said: “Without doubt, it will be Liverpool and Manchester City once again fighting it out for the title.

“The standard of football last year was just incredible from both of them — the runs they went on after Christmas were unreal.

“I just can’t see anyone challenging these two when it comes to lifting the trophy in May.

“I’m going to stick my neck out here and say Liverpool might just pip City to the league, providing they are more organised in defence than they looked at times on Sunday [in the Community Shield].

“Despite City winning the domestic Treble last time, the momentum Liverpool will have from bagging the Champions League will be crucial this season.

“However, I’m not sure either team will be able to better last season.

“We were very lucky to witness what we did with Liverpool being so good — and City being just one point better (98).”

Liverpool FC will kick off their new campaign with a home clash against Norwich City on Friday night, while Manchester City will travel to West Ham United on Saturday.
