Arsene Wenger believes that Aymeric Laporte’s absence could prove to be the difference between Liverpool FC and Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

The Premier League leaders will welcome the defending champions to Merseyside as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to protect their unbeaten start to the season.

Liverpool FC have won 10 of their 11 games in the Premier League so far, only drawing with Manchester United at Old Trafford last month.

The Merseyside outfit have already beaten Arsenal, Chelsea FC, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur in an impressive start to the Premier League season.

Manchester City are six points adrift of the league leaders after suffering losses to Norwich City and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League this term.

The Citizens have struggled defensively in the absence of Laporte, who suffered a season-ending knee injury since a 4-0 win against Brighton at the end of August.

Former Arsenal manager Wenger believes that Liverpool FC have an advantage against Manchester City due to Laporte’s absence.

“Well ,we have seen in recent years that they are very tight games,” Wenger told beIN Sports.

“We know Man City will take the game to Liverpool, and that Liverpool will be very dangerous on the counter-attack.

“I personally feel they could not afford to lose Laporte, Manchester City.

“If you look at their results, they still play great football but they are a fractionally a bit more vulnerable defensively.

“And that could be a big handicap against Liverpool.”

Liverpool FC finished in second place and a point behind Premier League champions Manchester City last season despite collecting 97 points.

The Reds lost one Premier League game throughout the campaign after a 2-1 defeat by Manchester City at The Etihad in January.

Liverpool FC played out a 0-0 draw with Manchester City at Anfield last term.
