Jose Mourinho insists Manchester United have nothing to prove at Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils are level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table following a run of six victories in seven games.

Manchester City have already beaten defending champions Chelsea and top-four rivals Liverpool in the Premier League this season.

The Red Devils, on the other hand, haven’t faced a team in the top six so far with a home clash against Everton their toughest assignment on paper.

But Manchester United eased to resounding 4-0 win against the Toffees as the Red Devils racked up 21 goals in their opening seven games.

Mourinho’s side will make the short trip to Anfield to take on a Liverpool side that have only managed to win one of their last seven games in all competitions.

Asked whether Manchester United’s clash against Liverpool represented their first real test of the season so far, Mourinho told Sky Sports:

“This is press talk, or pundit talk: ‘We have something to prove, Lukaku has to score, we have to win [is what they say]’.

“We have to prove nothing. We have our objectives for the season, we know where we want to go and how we have to go.

“One match, one result, one performance – that’s not going to change anything.”

Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson stood down as manager in 2013 following his 13th top-flight crown.

The Red Devils finished in sixth spot in the Premier League last term and two places behind Liverpool in the table.
