Michael Owen sends warning to Liverpool FC about Man United summer signing
The Liverpool legend is confident Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has a better chance of getting on the score sheet at Anfield this weekend
Michael Owen believes Romelu Lukaku is well placed to end his poor record at Anfield when Manchester United make the trip to Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.
The Belgium international has hit the ground running after the 24-year-old completed a £75m move to Manchester United from Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton.
Lukaku has scored seven times in seven games in the Premier League this season to hit the ground running at the 20-time English champions following his summer move.
The Red Devils are level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table following 19 points from their opening seven games.
However, Lukaku and Manchester United haven’t faced a Premier League team in the top six in the 2017-18 season so far.
The powerful Belgian centre-forward spent four seasons at Goodison Park but Lukaku never managed to score in a Merseyside derby at Anfield.
Former Liverpool striker Owen believes Lukaku has a great chance of getting on the score sheet against the Reds in their Premier League meeting this weekend.
“Romelu Lukaku has scored seven times in his first seven PL games for United and no player has scored eight times in their first eight Premier League games for the club,” Owen told BetVictor.
“The Belgium striker never scored at Anfield when playing in Merseyside derbies for Everton but, with the greatest of respect to the Blues, this will be the best side he has taken the field with against the Reds.”
Lukaku scored 25 times in 36 games in the Premier League last season to finish as the division’s second-highest goal-scorer behind Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
