Alan Shearer is tipping Liverpool FC to finish as Premier League champions this season.

The Reds got their new campaign off to a perfect start on Friday night when they sealed a 4-1 win over Norwich City at Anfield in their season-opener.

The Merseyside outfit will have their sights firmly set on winning the title this season after they ended up second and just a point behind Manchester City last term.

Liverpool FC did enjoy their first piece of silverware under Jurgen Klopp last season, however, when they beat Tottenham 2-0 in the Champions League final back in June.

Former England star Shearer is expecting to see another incredibly tight title race this season as Liverpool FC look to lift the Premier League trophy for the first time in their history.

Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Shearer said: “It sums up Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s relentless drive for trophies that he is chasing a hat-trick of hat-tricks this season.

“Pep has already won three successive titles as a manager in Spain and Germany – and he will be desperate to do the same in England.

“Recent history tells us that it is hard enough to defend the Premier League title, let alone win three in a row, and it would be an unbelievable achievement – another one to add to his list.

“Standing in Pep’s way are Liverpool, who ran City so close last season.

“To have lost the title by one point after only losing one game must have been incredibly hard to take for Jurgen Klopp and his side, but they will be full of confidence having won the Champions League.

“It is going to be another incredibly tight title race and although I have backed Liverpool to edge it in my pre-season predictions, you could almost flip a coin to pick a winner out of what are two really exceptional teams.”

Liverpool FC will take on Chelsea FC in the Uefa Super Cup on Wednesday night in Istanbul as they eye another trophy under Klopp.

The Merseyside outfit only brought in teenagers Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg, plus back-up goalkeeper Adrian this summer.

Their next Premier League game is a trip to Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
