Jurgen Klopp praised for completing summer Liverpool FC signing
Jason McAteer says Liverpool FC made a smart move by signing Alisson Becker from AS Roma
Jason McAteer has praised Liverpool FC for completing the signing of Alisson Becker from AS Roma this summer – even if he admits the Reds paid over the odds for the goalkeeper.
Alisson has been a solid force in goal for the Reds so far this season and he has helped Liverpool FC to secure five wins from their opening five Premier League games.
The Brazilian goalkeeper was brought in by the Reds after Loris Karius was criticised for making two major mistakes in the Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid back in May.
Alisson will be hoping to provide some improved stability at the back as he bids to try and help Liverpool FC challenge for the title this season.
Former Liverpool FC star McAteer feels that the Reds were forced to pay a premium to land the shot-stopper, but he admits that the deal will end up proving to be a good one anyway.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Express, McAteer said: “I think the goalkeeper – like a centre-half or centre-forward – comes at a premium now.
“So, knowing Liverpool were in the market for a keeper put a premium on the transfer fee, but that’s the way it was.
“I think [Alisson] is the right man for the job – with Jurgen and his philosophy, he likes a keeper that plays out from the back and is comfortable with his feet.”
Liverpool FC will kick off their Champions League group stage campaign when they host Paris-Saint Germain at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The Reds are aiming to go one step further this season after they finished as runners-up last term.
