‘He’s been magnificent’: Robertson talks up Liverpool FC attacker
Andy Robertson talks up Sadio Mane's influence at Liverpool FC this season
Andy Robertson singled out Sadio Mane for special praise after the attacker netted Liverpool FC’s crucial winner in their thrilling 2-1 victory at Aston Villa on Saturday.
The Reds looked to be heading towards their first Premier League defeat of the season at Villa Park after Trezeguet gave the home side the lead in the 21st minute.
However, Robertson equalised for Klopp’s men in the 87th minute, before Mane scored the crucial winner for the Reds in the fourth minute of stoppage time to salvage what could be a decisive three points for the visitors.
Mane, 27, has been in top form for Liverpool FC in recent months and his goal against Villa was his sixth of the season in the Premier League.
The Senegal international has also scored twice in three Champions League games this season and has made two assists for his team-mates in the Premier League, including setting up Robertson for his goal against Villa.
And Robertson was full of praise for Mane and his outstanding recent form as he reflecting on Saturday’s thrilling game.
Speaking to Liverpool FC’s website, Robertson said: “Sadio has been magnificent since I’ve come in, but 2019 I think has been Sadio’s year.
“He’s really turned it up; he obviously shared the Golden Boot last year and he’s off to a flier this year.
“It was a smashing goal. We worked on it in training, worked on the front post, and we probably didn’t work on it quite as well as Sadio’s just headed in Trent’s ball, but that’s why we do it in training and luckily the finish, the big moments happen in the 94th or 95th minute, and he pops up. An incredible finish.”
He added: “We just need to keep going because we probably weren’t at our best, especially in the first half, and we need to get better and we need to play better, but as long as we are winning games when we are not playing at our best then we are happy.”
Liverpool FC are currently six points clear of Manchester City heading into Sunday’s crunch showdown with Pep Guardiola’s men at Anfield.
