Dirk Kuyt raves about new Liverpool FC signing
Dirk Kuyt explains why he has been so impressed by new Liverpool FC signing Virgil van Dijk
Dirk Kuyt has heaped praise on new Liverpool FC signing Virgil van Dijk following his recent improvements.
The Netherlands defender signed for the Reds from Southampton in the January transfer window following months of speculation linking him with a move to Anfield.
Van Dijk has made a solid start to life at the Merseyside club and seems to have already struck up a strong partnership with Dejan Lovren in the heart of the Liverpool FC defence.
The 26-year-old has just been named as the new Netherlands captain by new Oranje boss Ronald Koeman ahead of this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
And former Anfield favourite Kuyt has admitted that he has been very impressed by the way Van Dijk has developed his game in recent seasons.
Kuyt is quoted as saying by Liverpool FC’s website: “He made incredible steps in the last couple of years.
“He’s not a typical Dutch player who played in the Dutch league.
“Yes he played there but not for so long – he went to Scotland and then to Southampton and now he’s at one of the biggest clubs in the world in Liverpool, so he did it his own way.”
Van Dijk will be hoping to feature for Liverpool FC when the Reds return to Premier League action after the international break with a trip to Crystal Palace on 31 March.
Liverpool FC are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they look to secure Champions League qualification for next season under Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds will take on Premier League rivals Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals next month.
