Julian Draxler fires dig at Liverpool FC after PSG lose at Anfield
Julian Draxler discusses PSG's loss to Liverpool FC in the Champions League on Tuesday night
Julian Draxler claimed that Paris Saint-Germain deserved at least a point from their Champions League opener at Liverpool FC on Tuesday night.
The Reds made a solid start to their new Champions League campaign on Tuesday night as they managed to snatch a dramatic 3-2 win in front of their home fans at Anfield.
Daniel Sturridge and James Milner’s penalty had put the Reds 2-0 up before half-time, but Thomas Meunier pulled a goal back for the visitors and Kylian Mbappe equalised with seven minutes left to play.
But it was Liverpool FC who had the last laugh, as Roberto Firmino came off the bench to net a dramatic late winner for Jurgen Klopp’s men in second-half stoppage time at Anfield to hand the Reds all three points.
It was a closely contested game at Anfield, but PSG star Draxler felt that his side deserved at least something from the encounter.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Draxler said: “We did not start very well. Liverpool led 2-0 but we also know it’s hard to score two goals here.
“We deserved the draw but we recognise that Liverpool are a very strong team and Firmino showed that in the last few minutes.
“In the first half we lacked aggressiveness. If you want to win the Champions League you have to take three points here and be more cunning.
“But I am proud of the team and I hope we will do better in front of our supporters in Paris.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool FC will now turn their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their home clash against Southampton in the top flight on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds have won all five of their Premier League games so far this season to leave them joint top of the table along with Chelsea FC.
