Frank Lampard names Liverpool FC’s prime weakness
Frank Lampard discusses what he thinks will be Liverpool FC's main weakness this season
Frank Lampard believes that Liverpool FC’s attacking style of play naturally leaves them susceptible to the counter-attack.
The Reds have earned huge amounts of praise for their attacking performances this season under Jurgen Klopp and they have one of the best forwards in the Premier League in the form of Mohamed Salah.
The Merseyside outfit once again showcased their attacking talent on Wednesday night when they claimed a dominant 5-0 victory over FC Porto in the Champions League last 16.
Sadio Mane scored a hat-trick to add to goals from Salah and Roberto Firmino as Klopp’s men all but booked their place in the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition.
Chelsea FC legend Lampard is a huge admirer of the Reds’ attacking play but he admits that it can make them vulnerable on the counter-attack.
Speaking to BT Sport after Wednesday’s game, Lampard said: “They are very front footed. We know their strength is in attack and they attack very fast.
“But sometimes good possession that breaks through that press can cause you problems.
“I think Liverpool have found it difficult at times to break teams down who drop off against them and then they can be open to the counter-attack.”
Liverpool FC now have the weekend off before they prepare for their Premier League clash against West Ham United on Saturday 24 February.
Klopp’s side are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they chase Champions League qualification for the second season running under the German coach.
Liverpool FC are still waiting to win their first trophy under Klopp.
