Joleon Lescott tips Liverpool FC’s forgotten man to impress this season
Joleon Lescott says Daniel Sturridge has a part to play in helping Liverpool FC this season

Joleon Lescott believes that Daniel Sturridge has a part to play in helping Liverpool FC to enjoy a successful campaign this season.
The striker has struggled for both form and fitness in recent campaigns and he was shipped out on loan to West Bromwich Albion for the second part of last season.
Sturridge missed out on a spot in the England squad at this summer’s World Cup in Russia but he has since returned to Liverpool FC to begin his pre-season preparations.
The striker will be hoping to prove himself as worthy of a regular spot in the first team under Jurgen Klopp this season as he bids to try and help the Reds to challenge for the Premier League title.
Lescott feels that Sturridge will have a part to play at Liverpool FC next season and is tipping the striker to be able to earn a spot in the first team under Klopp.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Sport, Lescott said: “As well as all their signings, it looks like Daniel Sturridge is back in contention at Liverpool now and I think both parties have to recognise the part he can play this season.
“Klopp has got to see that Sturridge has the close control to unlock teams who sit deep, and Daniel has to realise that when Liverpool are playing on the counter-attack, he has got a lot of work to do off the ball and, like Firmino, is not there just to score goals.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season but they will be aiming to challenge for the title this time around.
The Reds were busy in the transfer market as they brought in Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker ahead of the new campaign.
