Jurgen Klopp is hoping to have Alisson Becker back available for selection again soon – but has refused to set a return date for the Liverpool FC goalkeeper.

The Brazil international has been out of action since suffering a calf injury in the first half of Liverpool FC’s Premier League opener against Norwich City at Anfield last month.

Summer signing Adrian has been playing in the Brazilian’s place since then, as Alisson works on his fitness levels behind the scenes at Melwood.

Klopp has now confirmed that Alisson has been making positive progress in his recovery, but the Liverpool FC boss was unable to give a concrete return date for the goalkeeper when speaking before this weekend’s clash at Burnley.

Speaking at a news conference at Melwood on Friday, Klopp said: “He [has] made steps, of course, but it was a proper injury, so it will still take time.

“How it always is with professional sportsmen, when you have a muscle thing and it takes long, then it takes a while as well until you can bring the muscle to at least the same level it was before.

“A calf muscle is pretty important for jumping – and for a goalie, it is quite important that you can jump from time to time, so it will take time.

“But, thank God – and hopefully it stays like this – we have a fit Adrian in the back and now in charge, which is good. So far, I am really happy with everything I saw.

“He is a good guy, which is important as well, but most importantly of course he can catch balls and that’s good as well.

“The solution we found for it is really good, but of course it would be better if Ali was around but that will take still some time.”

Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Newcastle United on Saturday 14 September at Anfield.

The Reds are aiming to try and go one step further in the Champions League this season after they finished second and just a point behind champions Manchester City last term.

Liverpool FC, however, did win the Champions League last season and have lifted the Uefa Super Cup since then.
