Jurgen Klopp told to make this key Liverpool FC signing
Jamie Redknapp explains why Liverpool FC will have to try and sign a new goalkeeper in the summer window
Jamie Redknapp has told Jurgen Klopp that he will have to bring in a new goalkeeper to Liverpool FC in the summer transfer window.
The Reds have already been busy in the January transfer window after having signed defender Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in a big-money deal.
The Merseyside outfit also brought in a huge transfer fee after finally agreeing to sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.
Liverpool FC are thought to be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, however, with neither Simon Mignolet nor Loris Karius managing to convince between the posts for Klopp’s men.
The Reds boss has been rotating the two shot-stoppers this season but seems undecided about which of the two should be his number one due their unconvincing performances.
And former Liverpool FC midfielder Redknapp now feels that it is time for the Reds to seriously look into signing a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp said: “The next position on Jurgen Klopp’s list to address will be a goalkeeper – but I think that will have to wait until the summer.
“Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius are both good goalkeepers but you just have to look at Ederson at Manchester City to see what a difference a top goalkeeper can make to a team.
“Last season Claudio Bravo was shaky, nervous. But while Ederson makes the odd mistake, such as his misplaced kick last weekend, he’s been brilliant for City.
“The problem Liverpool have is it isn’t easy to find a ‘keeper of that calibre. It’s easier to scout an outfield player than a goalkeeper at times. So I expect them to wait until the summer before they make a move for that role.”
Liverpool FC are aiming to at least finish in the top four once again this season after they ended up in fourth place in Klopp’s first full campaign in charge at Anfield last season.
The Reds return to FA Cup action on Saturday with a home clash against West Brom in the fourth round.
