Jurgen Klopp hails Liverpool FC’s ‘wonderful’ Xherdan Shaqiri
Jurgen Klopp raves about Xherdan Shaqiri after Liverpool FC's 3-1 win over Manchester United
Jurgen Klopp lavished praise on Xherdan Shaqiri after the forward came off the bench to inspire Liverpool FC to a 3-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday.
The Switzerland international has been getting used to life at Anfield after having arrived at the club from Stoke City in the summer transfer window.
Not surprisingly, Shaqiri has struggled to break into the starting line-up on Merseyside as he is competing with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane for a place in the side.
However, he has been making an impact whenever called upon, and he came on to score two goals in the second half on Sunday to hand Liverpool FC the victory over their bitter local rivals.
The 27-year-old has now scored five goals and made two assists in 13 Premier League games so far this season.
And Klopp was understandably delighted by Shaqiri’s recent displays.
Speaking at his post-match news conference at Anfield on Sunday, Klopp said: “Shaq is such a wonderfully skilled boy that he has to have influence, that’s important.
“We can bring him in a half-space and if he passes the ball back to the guy who passed him the ball, it doesn’t make too much sense.
“He has to turn, he has to speed up, he has to change the situation, pass in behind and all that stuff. He did it.”
Speaking to Sky Sports, Klopp added on Shaqiri: “He is a wonderful player. We had this little talk, after a beautiful start, he got less decisive, his left foot is made for decisive things and shooting.”
Shaqiri will be hoping to feature for Liverpool FC when the Reds return to Premier League action on Friday night with a trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Liverpool FC are the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League and are currently top of the table.
