Jurgen Klopp delivers a clear update on Daniel Sturridge's future at Liverpool FC
Jurgen Klopp has insisted that Daniel Sturridge remains firmly part of his plans at Liverpool FC for next season.
The England striker’s situation at the club has been a source of speculation recently after his disappointing loan spell at West Bromwich Albion in the second half of last season.
Sturridge has struggled for game-time under Klopp at Liverpool FC and his future at the club has been called into question as a result.
However, the striker has been training with his team-mates under Klopp this summer as the Reds prepare for the new campaign.
And Klopp has insisted that the former Chelsea FC and Manchester City forward remains very much part of his plans ahead of next season.
Speaking at a news conference after Liverpool FC’s pre-season win over Manchester United over the weekend, Klopp said: “We have a fantastic relationship, that’s how it is.
“I like him a lot as a person and as a player especially. He is an outstanding player.
“When I came here, I was very excited about the fact I will work together with him back in 2015. Since then he has had a few injury issues and we couldn’t change that, he couldn’t change that, it happened.
“A lot of others improved. When I came in one problem of the club was that Daniel would train two days and then everyone would ask if he can play the next game after six weeks with an injury. I said, ‘no chance, he needs to train’ because that’s how I understand the game.
“I am completely open to individualising training and saying ‘you do that, you have to do that more’. There is no doubt about his quality, if Daniel Sturridge is fit, he will play a role in the team, 100 per cent.
“Does he have to play 50-something games? No. But hopefully a few really good ones. That’s the plan.”
Liverpool FC will be looking to be one of the main contenders for the Premier League title next season as they look to try and win their first major trophy under Klopp.
The Reds ended up in fourth place in the table last term and without a trophy after the Merseyside outfit were beaten by Real Madrid in the Champions League final back in May.
