Gary Neville believes Liverpool are like Arsenal in terms of being unable to resolve their persistent defensive lapses.

The Reds lost 4-1 to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Sunday to slump their third games without a Premier League win.

Liverpool have conceded 15 times in four games on the road in the Premier League this season to leave Jurgen Klopp’s men in ninth place.

The Merseyside outfit started their 2017-18 season with a 3-3 draw with Watford before a 5-0 loss to leaders Manchester City at The Etihad.

Liverpool battled to a 3-2 win against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium before Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw with the Reds.

Harry Kane scored two goals at Wembley, while Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min helped to seal a resounding 4-1 victory over Liverpool in the top-six clash on Sunday afternoon.

Dejan Lovren endured a miserable 32 minutes before Klopp withdrew the Croatia international to spare the centre-half’s blushes after a disastrous start to the Premier League game.

Liverpool have struggled defensively over the past three or four seasons under Klopp as well as his predecessor Brendan Rodgers.

Manchester United legend Neville was critical of Liverpool’s failure to improve since Klopp took over the reins at Anfield.

“The mistakes around those first two goals revolved around Dejan Lovren,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“It destroyed them. I was about to praise the Liverpool players – you couldn’t see any space – but then he decides to play offside from a throw-in.”

Neville added: “Anfield is a fortress but they crumble away from home when they come under pressure. It’s almost like Arsenal, where you keep seeing the same things, season after season. It’s Groundhog Day.”
