Graeme Souness sets Liverpool FC realistic target for this season
The Liverpool FC legend believes a top-four finish would be a good achievement for Jurgen Klopp's men this term
Graeme Souness has declared that finishing in the Premier League’s top four would be a “real success” for Liverpool this season.
The Merseyside outfit are in ninth place in the Premier League table and 12 points behind current leaders Manchester City.
Liverpool are looking increasingly unlikely to challenge for the title in Klopp’s second full season in charge at the five-time European champions.
The Reds finished in the Premier League’s top four last term to secure a return to the Champions League in his first full season in charge.
Klopp’s side have conceded 15 times in five games on the road in the Premier League following a 4-1 loss to top-four rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley last weekend.
Former Liverpool captain Souness believes the Reds would do well to finish in the Premier League’s top four this season.
“For me, finishing in the top four would be a real success, but right now, I don’t see Liverpool doing that,” Souness told Sky Sports.
Liverpool haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
The Reds have signed 11 players since Klopp took over the reins at Anfield in 2015, as well as agreeing a deal to sign Naby Keita from RB Leipzig next summer.
