Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool need to learn to kill off teams to improve their defensive record.

The Reds were thrilling 3-2 winners against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in what was another worrying defensive performance.

Liverpool were 2-0 and 3-1 up but Shinji Okazaki and Jamie Vardy ensured Liverpool fans were unable to relax despite a dominant attacking display.

The Merseyside outfit have already conceded 11 times in six games in the Premier League this season to raise serious questions about Klopp’s back four.

Liverpool have conceded more goals under Klopp than the German coach’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers after 73 games in charge.

The Reds attempted to sign Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk in a big-money deal last summer but Southampton refused to sell the 26-year-old.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher offered a simple suggestion in terms of how Klopp’s side can defend better moving forward.

“Liverpool in those moments should be killing the other team off by either being really strong defensively or saying ‘come on, we’ll kill you on the counter-attack’. But what Liverpool do is they give them oxygen,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“Even at 2-0 or 3-1 teams think they have a chance because history has shown in the last few years they always concede goals. What Liverpool fans want to see isn’t so much 3-2s and 3-3s but streetwise footballers who know what to do when they need to go and win a game and how to hold onto a game.”`

Liverpool secured fourth place in the Premier League last season to book their place in the Champions League.

The Merseyside outfit signed AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke, Hull City defender Andy Robertson and Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the summer transfer window.

The Reds will make the trip to Newcastle United in their next Premier League game on Sunday afternoon.
