Paul Ince has urged Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to settle on a consistent back four.
The Merseyside outfit have conceded 15 times in five games on the road in the Premier League this season to raise serious question about Klopp’s defence given Crystal Palace have a better defensive record in their away games.
Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren was taken off after a mere 32 minutes at Wembley last weekend as the Croatia international struggled to contain free-scoring Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in a 4-1 loss at Wembley.
The Reds have already shipped 16 goal in nine Premier League games to raise questions about Klopp’s decision not to invest in a new centre-half during the summer transfer window.
Liverpool attempted to sign Southampton centre-half Virgil van Dijk but the Merseyside outfit were unable to get a deal over the line for the Netherlands international.
Former Liverpool midfielder Ince urged Klopp to make a decision on his preferred back four and stick with the combination for the next couple of weeks.
“My advice to Klopp would be that it’s okay to play attacking football, but you’ve also got to think about the other end of the pitch,” Ince told Paddy Power’s website.
“He needs to find a consistent back four that works, and he needs to get them out on the training pitch and just keep drilling it into them. That’s what I’d be doing.”
Liverpool are in ninth place in the Premier League table and 12 points behind current leaders Manchester City.
The Reds finished in fourth spot last term to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-season absence.
