Jermaine Jenas has warned Jurgen Klopp that the Liverpool manager needs to make signings capable of having an immediate impact – and not signings for the future.

The Reds boss is coming under pressure after Liverpool broke up for the international break with an underwhelming record of one win in their last seven games in all competitions

The Merseyside outfit have conceded 12 times in their last seven games in the Premier League to raise serious questions about their defence despite a summer of investment.

Klopp signed one defender in the summer transfer window after Liverpool brought in Hull City full-back Andy Robertson in an £8m deal to improve their left-back options.

The 23-year-old has impressed when called upon to feature in the Liverpool side but Klopp has used the full-back sparingly despite his promising performances.

Indeed, the Liverpool boss has stuck with Alberto Moreno at left-back in recent weeks despite the Spain international’s reckless style of defending.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jenas told Klopp that he can ill-afford to sign players for the future given the accumulating pressure surrounding Klopp’s lack of progress at Anfield.

“He obviously bought Andy Robertson for the future,” Jenas told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“But Klopp, I hate to break it to you, that future you’re thinking about may not be your future if you keep conceding goals.”

Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table in Klopp’s first full season in charge at Anfield.
