Jurgen Klopp is the right manager for Liverpool, Phil Neville has insisted.

The Reds boss celebrated his second anniversary at the Anfield outfit earlier this month following his appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ successor in 2015.

Klopp led Liverpool to League Cup and Europa League finals in his first season in charge in 2015 but the Reds lost to Manchester City and Sevilla.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss guided Liverpool to a fourth-place finish in the Premier League to secure a return to the Champions League.

However, Liverpool managed to win just three of their opening seven Premier League games to leave the Reds seven points off the pace before the international break.

Indeed, the Reds are seemingly no closer to winning the Premier League title under Klopp than under his predecessor Rodgers.

But former Manchester United defender Neville believes Klopp is the right man for Liverpool despite their stunted progress in recent months.

“I think he is the right manager for Liverpool,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“He is the top of manager when you go into a one-off game, he’ll get them fired up and get them racing out of the traps. He is the right man but they’ve got to start backing him in the transfer market.”

Liverpool signed four players in the summer transfer window to improve their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.

The Reds signed AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke, Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Hull City defender Andy Robertson.
