Jurgen Klopp bluntly told 26-year-old needs to improve at Liverpool FC
Danny Higginbotham is critical of Roberto Firmino's performances so far this season and warned the Liverpool FC star needs to improve
Danny Higginbotham has bluntly told Roberto Firmino that he needs to improve at Liverpool.
The Brazil international has scored two goals and has made two assists in seven appearances in the Premier League this season.
Firmino moved to Liverpool in a £29m deal from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim in the 2015 summer transfer window under Brendan Rodgers.
The 26-year-old started his career as a wide player at Anfield but Jurgen Klopp has utlisied the South American in a false number nine role.
Firmino has scored 27 times in 96 games in all competitions throughout his Liverpool career so far.
However, the Brazilian forward is still waiting to win his first piece of silverware at the Anfield outfit.
Former Manchester United defender Higginbotham admits he wants to see much more from Firmino after his disappointing start to the 2017-18 campaign.
“I think so, yeah definitely (we expect more from Firmino),” Higginbotham told Sky Sports News on Friday morning.
“The type of player he is he will be expecting more from himself as well, I don’t think there’s any question about that.”
Firmino has scored 23 times in 69 appearances in the Premier League over the past 26 months or so.
Liverpool will return to Premier League action with a home clash against bitter rivals Manchester United at Anfield on Saturday 14 October.
The Reds signed four players in the summer transfer window as Liverpool looked to improve their squad for a return to the Champions League.
Klopp’s side finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term.
