Steven Gerrard says Liverpool star will win PFA player of the year
Steven Gerrard is tipping Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane to win the PFA player of the year award this season
Steven Gerrard is tipping Sadio Mane to win the PFA player of the year award this season thanks to his top performances for Liverpool.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the season at Anfield after he netted the all-important winner in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday.
Mane was one of Liverpool’s top performers last season as he enjoyed a strong campaign following his move from Southampton last summer.
Liverpool legend Gerrard is clearly a big fan of Mane and is tipping him to enjoy a top season for Jurgen Klopp’s side this term.
Speaking on Premier League Tonight on BT Sport, Gerrard said: “He is my tip for the PFA player of year this season.
“I thought Liverpool really struggled in the end of December and January last year [without him].
“He’s a very key and important player for Liverpool and for me, he will be in contention for the player of the year this year.
“I’ve watched him a lot. He’s very unpredictable, he’s got pace, he runs in behind – he’s got the lot.”
Mane will be expecting to feature for Liverpool when the Reds take on Hoffenheim in the return leg of their Champions League play-off clash at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The Reds secured a 2-1 win in Germany in the first leg and will be looking to claim victory to secure their spot in the group stage of Europe’s elite club competition.
Liverpool will then turn their attentions towards their crunch Premier League clash against Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday afternoon as they look to make it two home wins in a row.
