Sky Sports reporter: Liverpool FC trying to sign 22-year-old German midfielder
Kaveh Solhekol delivers the latest update on Liverpool FC's reported interest in signing Leon Goretzka from Schalke
Liverpool FC have not given up hope of signing Leon Goretzka from Schalke in the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol.
The Merseyside outfit have already been busy in the January transfer window after agreeing to sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona and bringing in defender Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.
The 22-year-old Goretzka has long been linked with a possible move to the Premier League and Liverpool FC has been touted as a potential destination for the German midfielder.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool FC have been credited with an interest in the midfielder, whose contract at Schalke expires in the summer.
Now, reporter Solhekol has claimed that the Reds see Goretzka as an “ideal” replacement for midfielder Emre Can, who could leave Anfield on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer.
Speaking to Sky Sports News on Monday, Solhekol said: “Staying with Liverpool and the latest on Leon Goretzka, one of the most sought-after players in world football at the moment.
“Liverpool haven’t totally given up on signing him. His Schalke contract runs out in the summer. Bayern Munich believe they’re close to agreeing a deal.
“Liverpool see him as an ideal replacement for Emre Can, who’s likely to join Juventus when his contract runs out in the summer.”
Liverpool FC moved up to third place in the Premier League table on Sunday thanks to their thrilling 4-3 victory over Manchester City at Anfield as Jurgen Klopp’s men became the first team to beat the Citizens in the top flight this season.
The Reds travel to Swansea City in the Premier League on Monday night.
