Sami Hyypia has talked up Daniel Sturridge’s ability and claims that the striker deserves a regular run in the first team at Liverpool.

The England international came off the bench to score a late goal in Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Maribor in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Sturridge has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Liverpool under Klopp this season, with the striker having only started four of the Reds’ 10 Premier League games.

The 28-year-old has scored three goals and made two assists in all competitions this season under Klopp.

However, former Liverpool star Hyypia has suggested that Sturridge is worthy of a more regular spot in the first team and says he is a big admirer of the striker.

Speaking to BT Sport after the victory over Maribor, Hyypia said: “He’s a finisher. He is lethal inside and around the box.

“He could have suited the game [against Maribor] pretty well.”

Sturridge will be hoping to feature for Liverpool when the Reds return to Premier League action on Saturday evening with a trip to east London to take on West Ham United.

The Reds, who finished in fourth place last season, head into the game looking to build on their 3-0 victory over Huddersfield Town in the Premier League at Anfield last weekend.
