John Aldridge believes that Liverpool are more than capable of exposing Manchester United’s vulnerabilities in defence in Saturday’s showdown at Anfield in the Premier League.

The Red Devils head into the game after having made a fine start to the new Premier League season, winning six of their opening seven games.

Manchester United will be aiming to challenge for the Premier League title this season after the disappointment of their sixth placed finish in the top flight last term.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been criticised for their shaky defensive performances so far this season, with Jurgen Klopp’s men having conceded more goals than any of the teams above them in the Premier League.

However, former Liverpool star Aldridge believes that Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho will still be concerned about his side’s defending at times this season, despite Manchester United having only conceded twice in the Premier League so far.

Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, former Reds star Aldridge said: “I still see vulnerabilities in United’s defence.

“I know their record on paper is good, but they can be got at.

“David De Gea is a great ‘keeper but he’s needed more than Jose Mourinho would like, I’m sure.”

Manchester United have been in brilliant form so far this season and find themselves in second place in the Premier League table, level on points with leaders Manchester City after seven games of the new campaign.
