Sadio Mane is Liverpool’s key player, Phil Neville says.
The Senegal international made a brilliant start to the season following a return of three goals in three Premier League games.
Mane’s form was halted after he was sent off during the first half of Liverpool’s 5-0 loss to Manchester City at The Etihad.
The African forward suffered a hamstring problem during Senegal’s World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde in the international break.
Liverpool will be without Mane for six weeks and the African has already missed games against Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Mane scored 13 goals and made seven assists in 31 games in the Premier League last term to secure a top-four finish.
Former Manchester United defender Neville believes Mane, not Philippe Coutinho, is Jurgen Klopp’s key player.
“Mane is the key. He is Liverpool’s best player,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“He is unpredictable. He can win a game. He can do something out of nothing.”
The Merseyside outfit signed Mane in a £30m deal from Southampton in the 20
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League.
The Reds only signed Hull City left-back Andy Robertson to improve their defence in the summer transfer window.
