Jurgen Klopp sends open message to Liverpool FC fans about Philippe Coutinho
Jurgen Klopp speaks out about Philippe Coutinho's situation after Liverpool kept hold of the player in the summer transfer window
Jurgen Klopp has expressed his delight at seeing Liverpool be able to keep hold of Philippe Coutinho beyond the summer transfer window.
The Brazilian playmaker was heavily linked with a move away from Anfield during the summer transfer window but a switch failed to materialise.
Barcelona were thought to be keen on signing Coutinho from Liverpool and the Spanish club claimed over the weekend that the Reds priced them out of a move to land the 25-year-old.
Coutinho is yet to feature for Liverpool this season but could be in line to make his first appearance of the campaign when Klopp’ side travel to The Etihad to take on Manchester City after the international break.
And the Liverpool boss has admitted his delight at the fact that the Reds were able to ward off the interest from Barcelona and keep hold of Coutinho.
Speaking in an interview with German media outlet SPORT1, Klopp said: “Don’t believe everything in the press or that there are offers here and there and that the minute after the offer has been entered, it should already be over.
“We are not like George Orwell where everybody knows everything immediately. We have exactly the situation we wanted and no other.
“Dortmund decided the player [Ousmane Dembele] would leave them, so I cannot compare the two situations.
“We still have a really good player [Coutinho] in the squad who can play.”
Liverpool have made a strong start to the season in Coutinho’s absence and have won two of their opening three games to leave them in second place in the Premier League table.
Klopp strengthened his squad with four new signings in the summer transfer window after tying up deals for Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke, Andy Robertson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
