Liverpool FC told to make this signing in the January transfer window
Stephane Henchoz urged Jurgen Klopp to bolster his Liverpool FC defence in January

Stephane Henchoz has urged Liverpool to make signing a new centre-half a priority in the January transfer window.
The Reds were heavily linked with a move to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton early on in the summer but the transfer failed to materialise as the Saints opted to keep hold of the defender after accusing Liverpool of an alleged illegal approach.
Jurgen Klopp then opted not to bring in another central defender in the summer transfer window ahead of the 2017-18 season.
Liverpool have been heavily criticised for their poor defensive performances in recent weeks, with the Reds having conceded more goals in the Premier League than any of the teams above them in the table.
And former Liverpool defender Henchoz feels that the Reds must move to try and bring in a quality centre-half in the January transfer window if they are to turn their season around.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Henchoz said: “It was a big problem last season and everybody was hoping they could solve the problem.
“I think they definitely should buy somebody.
“At least one or two centre-backs, they tried [Virgil] Van Dijk, but they couldn’t make it happen.
“I don’t know. It seems that it is always the same mistakes, set pieces, they are very weak, very poor.”
Liverpool are currently gearing up for their crunch clash against Manchester United at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds, who finished fourth last season, head into the game on the back of their 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at St James’ Park before the international break.
