Gary Neville believes that Liverpool FC can take plenty of positives from their disappointing defeat by Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Reds ended up losing 2-1 to their bitter local rivals at Old Trafford as they struggled to produce a solid performance.
Two quick goals from Marcus Rashford in the first half put Manchester United in control, and although the Reds pulled one back through Eric Bailly’s own goal in the second half, Jose Mourinho’s men held on to claim all three points.
The win allowed Manchester United to pull five points clear of Liverpool FC in the Premier League table, with eight games left to play this season.
But despite the obvious disappointment of the loss, Manchester United legend Neville believes that there are plenty of positives for the Red Devils to take from the game.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Neville said: “You can never say it’s acceptable to lose to Manchester United, you can never say it’s a good feeling, but they will probably have as good a feeling as you could have in losing a game against Manchester United.
“They will be disappointed, as will Jurgen Klopp, but they will point to those two goals and say, ‘Well they didn’t cut us open, they didn’t destroy us. It was two really poor goals, and we knocked at the door and should have had two penalties’. I’m sure Jurgen Klopp will say that.
“He’ll take the good out of that game. He won’t come away from it thinking, ‘My players aren’t up to it, to playing at Old Trafford, they’re not ready for this’. They did play well. They dominated the ball.”
Next up for Liverpool FC is a home clash against Watford at Anfield on Saturday evening.
The Reds booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League last week thanks to their dominant 5-0 aggregate win over FC Porto.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table under Klopp last term.
