Martin Keown is tipping this to be Liverpool FC’s year in the Premier League title race.

The Reds are currently gearing up for the new campaign as they look to continue their brilliant progress under Jurgen Klopp since his appointment back in October 2015.

Liverpool FC earned plenty of praise for their strong performances last season as they ended up in fourth place in the Premier League table and also impressed en route to the Champions League final.

The Merseyside outfit ended up losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League final to leave Klopp still waiting for his first trophy since taking over at Anfield.

Liverpool FC have been busy in the summer transfer window and have concluded deal to bring in Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker so far this summer.

And Keown has now laid out the reasons why he thinks the Reds will be the main contenders for the Premier League title next season.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Mail, Keown said: “Liverpool have City’s card marked.

“They were the first team to beat them in the Premier League and saw them off twice in Europe.

“What they lacked was the consistency to mount a title challenge but have spent a fortune to close their 25-point gap on City.

“I feel Jurgen Klopp is on a journey. I played against the Liverpool sides of the late Eighties and they would steamroller their opponents, particularly at Anfield. That is what Klopp’s teams do.

“He has strengthened every compartment of his team. Andrew Robertson and Virgil van Dijk filled the gaps in defence. Now he has added quality in midfield with Naby Keita and Fabinho and spent a world-record fee for a goalkeeper.

“Toppling Guardiola will take some doing but City’s goal will be to win the Champions League. So fierce is the competition that I cannot see one team winning both the league and European Cup.

“There is not the same pressure at Anfield. Maybe, just maybe, this could be their year.”

Liverpool FC will get their Premier League campaign under way when they take on West Ham United at Anfield in their first game of the season on Sunday afternoon.
