Michael Owen makes confident prediction about Liverpool FC this season
Michael Owen discusses Liverpool FC's Champions League hopes this season under Jurgen Klopp
Michael Owen believes that Liverpool FC have what it takes to go far in the Champions League this season.
The Reds will take on FC Porto in the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition after the draw was made in Nyon on Monday morning.
Jurgen Klopp’s side booked their place in the first knockout round of the Champions League in style by topping their group.
The Merseyside outfit will now be hoping to make their way past their Portuguese opponents and secure their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is confident that the Reds can beat anyone at Anfield in Europe this season and is feeling positive about the Merseyside outfit’s European hopes this term.
Speaking to BT Sport on Monday, ex-striker Owen said: “I didn’t ever think that they weren’t going to qualify [for the last 16].
“Obviously they emphatically qualified in the end and finished top of the group.
“One thing’s for sure – nobody’s going to go to Anfield and be relishing the trip. They can beat anybody, any time by any amount of goals at Anfield.
“Yes, the Manchester Cities look as if they are our best chance on paper, however, going to Anfield… it’s just such a magical place on European nights and you can’t put anything past Liverpool.
“Dreams and miracles happen there. The knockout football might suit Liverpool even more.”
Liverpool FC return to Premier League action on Wednesday night when they host West Bromwich Albion at Anfield.
The Reds are aiming to get back to winning ways after the disappointment of their 1-1 draw with Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table in Klopp’s first full campaign in charge last term.
