Liverpool make first approach to try and sign 23-year-old from rivals – report
Liverpool have made a direct approach to Arsenal about signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, say reports

Liverpool have made their first move to try and sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that Liverpool chiefs have made a “direct enquiry” to Arsenal about the availability of the England midfielder as they look to ramp up their summer recruitment drive.
However, the same story states that Arsenal “rebuffed” the approach from Liverpool as the Gunners remain in talks with the midfielder about extending his current contract.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s current deal with Arsenal is set to expire at the end of next season and the article in the Mirror claims that talks about a new contract have ground to a “frustrating halt”.
The same story claims that both Manchester City and Chelsea are also keeping a close eye on developments as the speculation about Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future rumbles on.
It is also claimed that there is a “growing feeling” Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future may lie away from Arsenal.
The 23-year-old has been criticised for failing to produce consistent performances for Arsenal in the last few years but the midfielder was in good form towards the end of last season.
