Jurgen Klopp delivers latest update on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at Liverpool FC
Jurgen Klopp delivers the latest news on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's return for Liverpool FC
Jurgen Klopp has revealed his delight at the progress Liverpool FC midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been making in his recovery from a serious knee injury.
The England international has been sidelined since last April and he has been working hard on his fitness levels as he looks to try and make himself available for selection again before the end of the current campaign.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has begun recently training outside once again as he steps up his recovery programme to try and get back fit as soon as possible.
Klopp has now admitted that he can’t wait to welcome Oxlade-Chamberlain back into the first team at Anfield, but he admits that he will only do so when he is completely ready.
Speaking in an interview with Liverpool FC’s website, Klopp said: “I didn’t lie, I said when you see him moving [in training] it is just unbelievable, he looks completely fine. The situation is now that we have to build endurance.
“What they did so far, it makes sense. You do the things to make sure the knee is again at 100 per cent.
“That’s obviously the case and that’s good, but from that moment on then you need time to adapt to the intensity of the game and that will take a while.
“But I pretty much can’t wait until we can involve him, at least for [a few] minutes. It is so nice.
“He had hard times in the year – and in the end it pretty much will be a year – but he dealt with it in an impressive way, to be honest.
“Still, everyone knew he had a hard time, but since five or six weeks [ago] you can see he sees the end, the light at the end of the tunnel, and that gave him a massive boost, gives us a massive boost, so now it is really close.”
Liverpool FC are currently top of the Premier League table as they look to try and win their first major trophy under Klopp.
The Reds – who are four points clear of second-placed Manchester City – will return to top-flight action on Wednesday night when they host Leicester City at Anfield looking to keep up their fine form in the Premier League this season.
