Richard Keys has warned Liverpool that the Reds are facing a serious fight on on their hands to finish in the top four this season.

It has been something of a stuttering start to the new campaign for Jurgen Klopp’s men, with the Merseyside outfit having only won three of their opening nine Premier League games.

Liverpool were thoroughly outplayed as they suffered a disappointing 4-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley last weekend.

The Reds finished fourth in Klopp’s first full campaign in charge last season as they secured a return to the Champions League.

However, their stuttering start to the new season has left them needing to claw their way back into the top four spots before considering a possible title challenge.

And former Sky Sports presenter Keys believes that Liverpool fans will be very disappointed by how the season has shaped up so far for the Reds.

Writing on his personal website, Keys said: “Jurgen Klopp came into the season telling anyone that would listen how happy he was with his squad.

“Reds fans believed that this was finally going to be their year – that the title was possible.

“Now Klopp is saying he’s not sure his team will make the top 4. What? He can’t be serious. That’s a minimum requirement – with a trophy. He’s GOT to deliver a trophy this season. Anything less is a failure.

“But right now they look miles away. They’ve won just one of their last six. They’ve conceded 16 goals from nine games.”

Liverpool will aim to get back to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday when they take on Huddersfield Town at Anfield.

The Reds are currently 12 points behind leaders Manchester City as they bid to try and claw their way back into contention for the title, after having won just three of their opening nine games.
