Jurgen Klopp is hoping that Roberto Firmino will be fit for Liverpool FC's Premier League opener against West Ham
Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that Roberto Firmino could be available for Liverpool FC’s opening Premier League game of the season against West Ham United.
The attacker has recently reported back to Anfield to begin his pre-season training preparations after his involvement in this summer’s World Cup with Brazil in Russia.
Both Firmino and Trent Alexander-Arnold are expected to play a part in Liverpool FC’s penultimate pre-season friendly clash against Napoli on Saturday.
And Klopp has now revealed that he is hoping that both players will be available for selection when the Reds kick off the new Premier League season next weekend.
Asked about Firmino’s availability, Klopp is quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “It’s good to have him here, he looks in good shape, and if possible we will see [if he can play against Napoli].
“Training for the outfield players is obviously different than for the goalies, but we want to see him as well against Napoli. We will see for how long.
“When we start against West Ham, he will have had then two weeks after three weeks off, it should be possible but we will see until then.
“In the moment he looks good, his programme is obviously pretty different. He is part of most of the sessions when the boys do something different that is not the highest intensity, so then he needs to do a little bit more, like Trent will do now.
“Step by step, they are all coming back and it’s the best news.”
Liverpool FC will be aiming to be among the main contenders for the Premier League title next season as they look to try and lift the trophy next season.
The Merseyside outfit finished in fourth place in the Premier League table and reached the Champions League final last term.
They have signed Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri, Fabinho and Alisson Becker as they prepare to try and launch a serious title bid next season.
Liverpool FC are still aiming to win their first major trophy under Klopp since his appointment at Anfield.
