Maurizio Sarri sends Liverpool FC warning to his Chelsea FC players
Maurizio Sarri discusses the threat posed by Liverpool FC to his Chelsea FC team this season
Maurizio Sarri has warned his Chelsea FC players that Liverpool FC are a step ahead of the Blues as they prepare to take on Jurgen Klopp’s side twice in a matter of days.
Liverpool FC have been the Premier League’s top performing team so far this season and the Reds have won all six of their opening games in the top flight to pull two points clear at the top of the table.
Chelsea FC were unable to keep pace with the Reds this weekend as Sarri’s side were held to a disappointing goalless draw against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool FC are now preparing to welcome Chelsea FC to Anfield in the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday night, before the Reds travel to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
And Sarri has admitted that Klopp’s side are currently a “step forward” of the Blues as both teams look to try and establish themselves as contenders for the Premier League this season.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Sunday, Sarri said: “We have to play against a very good team [Liverpool FC] that have worked with the same coach for four years.
“They are a step forward of us at the moment. We have started to work together 35 or 40 days ago, less when players were away with their national teams.
“For us it’s a bit early. We have to work and improve, and maybe in one year we will be at the same level as Liverpool.”
Chelsea FC brought Sarri in as their new manager back in July after they opted to part company with Antonio Conte.
The Blues have won five and drawn one of their opening six Premier League games as they look to bounce back from their disappointing fifth-placed finish last term.
