Gary Lineker takes to social media to praise Divock Origi after he helped to fire Liverpool FC to Champions League glory
Gary Lineker took to social media to praise Divock Origi for his smart finish as he helped to fire Liverpool FC to a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final.
The Reds found themselves ahead inside two minutes at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium when Mohamed Salah dispatched his penalty after Mohamed Sissoko was penalised for handball in the box.
The game was a stop-start affair for much of the first and second half, but it sprang into life in the final 20 minutes as Tottenham had a number of chances to equalise.
But it was Liverpool FC who netted the next goal, when Origi was on hand to fire home a low finish in the 87th minute.
Liverpool FC held on for the victory to clinch their sixth Champions League trophy and win their first piece of silverware under Jurgen Klopp.
And England legend Lineker was clearly impressed by what he saw from Origi as the Belgian striker made the victory secure with his neat finish.
Lineker wrote on Twitter after the second goal: “A precise finish from Origi surely wins @LFC the Champions League.”
The former Spurs striker then added moments later: “Not @LFC’s most exhilarating performance but a meritorious award for a truly outstanding season. Congratulations.”
Liverpool FC will now turn their attentions towards trying to go one step further in the Premier League next season and win the title after having finished a point behind Manchester City this term.
