Paul Ince has warned Liverpool FC that the Premier League title race will have left them drained ahead of their Champions League final clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Reds ended up missing out on the title by a single point as Manchester City were able to put together an incredible run of form in the closing stages of the campaign and retain their title.

Missing out on the title has left Liverpool FC still searching for their first ever trophy under Jurgen Klopp as they prepare for Saturday’s showdown in Madrid against Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur are competing in their first ever Champions League final as they too look to win their first major trophy under their current boss Mauricio Pochettino.

However, ex-England star Ince feels that Liverpool FC are likely to be more physically and mentally drained than Spurs after having come so close in the Premier League title race.

Writing in his column for Paddy Power, Ince said: “The Champions League final isn’t a foregone conclusion, Liverpool will be knackered from trying to chase Man City.

“If I was Pochettino, I’d be saying that they’ve had a very, very tough season. They’ve exhausted themselves trying to chase City – and will they be feeling that during the final? It will definitely have taken its toll.

“Losing out to City in the Premier League will have not only taken its toll on Liverpool physically, but mentally too.

“When you finish the season like that, and have a three week wait for the final, that’s draining for anyone – never mind if you’ve just missed out on the title.”

Liverpool FC mounted an incredible comeback against FC Barcelona in the semi-finals to secure their spot in the Champions League final.

They were 3-0 down after the first leg in Spain but managed to claim a sensational 4-0 win at Anfield in the return leg to secure their spot in Saturday’s showpiece.
