Gary Neville: What I really think about Liverpool FC signing Virgil van Dijk
Gary Neville opens up about Virgil van Dijk's transfer to Liverpool FC from Southampton

Gary Neville has admitted his surprise that Liverpool FC were willing to pay as much as £75m to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in January.
The defender confirmed on Wednesday night that a deal had been agreed for Van Dijk to link up with the Reds ahead of the official opening of the January transfer window.
The move came after relentless speculation linking Liverpool FC with a move for Van Dijk in the summer window but that move fell through.
The 26-year-old will now link up with the Reds in the coming weeks as he prepare for life on Merseyside at his new club.
Former Manchester United defender Neville insists that Van Dijk is a good signing for the Reds but he has admitted his surprise at the reported size of the transfer fee.
Speaking to Sky Sports on Wednesday night, Neville said: “It’s a lot of money! When I first heard it I thought ‘wow, £75m’.
“I’m not surprised by the actual transfer but that is an incredible amount of money.
“Liverpool need defenders and have to pay to get him. That’s the way the market is and it isn’t going to change.”
Liverpool FC return to Premier League action on Saturday when they host Leicester City at Anfield looking to build on their impressive 5-0 thrashing of Swansea on Boxing Day.
The Reds are currently fourth in the Premier League table as they look to try and secure qualification for next season’s Champions League once again.
