Virgil van Dijk is set to be handed a new contract at Liverpool FC to double his wages, according to reports.
Website 90min is reporting that the Netherlands international is close to putting pen to paper on a new deal at Anfield which will double his weekly wages to £250,000 a week.
The same story says that talks over a new deal were first discussed back in June and the Netherlands international is now expected to put pen to paper on his fresh contract.
It also says that there has been “no rush” from Liverpool FC’s perspective in terms of getting the deal done as quickly as possible.
The same article says that Liverpool FC want to hand Van Dijk improved terms, despite the fact that his current deal still has several years left to run.
Van Dijk is widely regarded as one of European football’s top defenders and he has had a hugely positive impact at Liverpool FC since signing for the Reds from Southampton in January 2018.
The 28-year-old was part of the Liverpool FC team who lifted the Champions League trophy and finished as runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League last season.
