Michael Owen is backing Liverpool FC to win by two goals or more in their Premier League opener against Norwich City on Friday night.

The Reds will welcome the Championship winners to Anfield in the first Premier League game of the 2019-20 season as Liverpool FC look to finally win the top-flight crown.

The Merseyside outfit finished in second place in the Premier League table last term and a point adrift of champions Manchester City despite losing just one game.

Liverpool FC managed to remain unbeaten at Anfield throughout the Premier League season, winning 17 times and drawing twice in front of their home support.

Norwich won the Championship with a five-point advantage over second-placed Sheffield United last term to suggest they could be in a good position to beat the drop.

But former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing Jurgen Klopp’s side to start the new Premier League season with a victory over Norwich at Anfield on Friday night.

“The only other time Liverpool entertained Norwich City in their opening league game of the season was back in the 1976-77 season,” Owen told BetVictor.

“The Reds won what was then the 1st Division title that season from runners up Manchester City. An omen perhaps?

“The last time the sides met, Liverpool won 5-4 at Carrow Road and I would be surprised if we didn’t see a number of goals at Anfield.

“The Reds finished the Community Shield at the weekend on the front foot and Jurgen Klopp would have been delighted with their second half performance at Wembley.

“Mo Salah looked particularly sharp against City and the Egyptian is likely to be a huge threat to the Canaries.”

Liverpool FC won the Champions League crown last season thanks to a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid.

The Reds have finished in second place in the Premier League table on four previous occasions.

Liverpool FC ended up in the runners-up spot on 2002, 2009, 2014 and 2018.

The Merseyside outfit have signed Sepp van den Berg, Harvey Elliott and Adrian in the summer transfer window.
