Former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp is backing the Reds to ease to victory over Porto in the Champions League last 16
Jamie Redknapp is confident Liverpool FC outscore Porto in their Champions League last-16 clash.
The Reds booked their place in the knockout stage of Europe’s premier club competition courtesy of 7-0 win against Spartak Moscow last week.
Liverpool FC scored a record number of times for a Premier League club in the Champions League group stage following a return of 23 goals in six games.
The 18-time English champions netted six times in a 6-4 win against Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the playoff round to take their tally to 29 in the Champions League this term.
Porto conceded 10 goals in the group stage to suggest Liverpool FC could have some joy against the Portuguese club given Jurgen Klopp’s prolific attack.
Former Liverpool FC midfielder Redknapp is confident the Reds will ease into the Champions League quarter-finals.
“Porto conceded 10 goals in the group stage and that will play into Liverpool’s hands,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
“With Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino in such form, you would expect Liverpool to score goals against this team.”
Liverpool FC were 4-1 winners against Porto in their last meeting in 2007 when Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres were in their pomp.
The Reds secured a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture in Portugal as Liverpool went on to reach the Champions League final in Athens.
The Merseyside outfit will be looking to win the Champions League for the first time their famous triumph over AC Milan in 2005.
