Michael Owen is tipping Liverpool FC to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final in Madrid on Saturday night.
The Merseyside outfit will take on their bitter rivals in the Champions League showpiece as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to win the competition following last season’s disappointment.
Liverpool FC lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in Kiev last term following a disastrous performance from German goalkeeper Loris Karius.
Their route to the final has been more difficult this term after Liverpool FC managed to get past Bayern Munich, FC Porto and FC Barcelona to reach this weekend’s showpiece.
Liverpool FC managed to overturn a 3-0 deficit to beat the Spanish side 4-0 at Anfield to secure their place in Madrid.
Tottenham are set to take part in their first Champions League final after eliminating Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Ajax to get to Madrid.
Spurs were trailing Ajax 3-0 on aggregate at half-time in the second leg in Amsterdam but Lucas Moura’s dramatic hat-trick booked their place in a first Champions League final.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing the Reds to beat Tottenham in a tight Champions League showpiece.
“Liverpool have lost their last four Cup Finals, but I don’t think that will count a jot in the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium,” Owen told BetVictor.
“This Liverpool team have come of age. They probably weren’t quite ready in Kiev 12 months ago – but they are now. Let’s hope Spurs going forward have their own day in the sun. They, too, deserve it.
“It is forecast to be 29 degrees at kick-off on Saturday and some will argue it will be difficult for the Reds to maintain their high and intense pressing game in that heat. I don’t agree but I don’t think it will be as easy for Liverpool as some are predicting.
“Jurgen Klopp has lost two Champions League Finals; his Borussia Dortmund side lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich at Wembley in 2013 and his Liverpool side lost 3-1 to a Gareth Bale inspired Real Madrid in the Ukraine 12 months ago.
“Forget third time lucky – this is the Reds’ time.”
Liverpool FC have won the Champions League on five previous occasions, although they’ve lost to AC Milan and Real Madrid in their last two finals.
