Alan Shearer warns Liverpool FC about ‘desperate’ pursuit of new goalkeeper
The Newcastle United legend believes Liverpool FC will have to pay over the odds for a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window

Alan Shearer has warned Jurgen Klopp that Liverpool FC will have to be prepared to pay over the odds for a new goalkeeper.
The Reds made Virgil van Dijk the most expensive defender in the world after the Dutch defender completed a £75m move from Southampton.
The Netherlands international will be tasked with improving Klopp’s defence heading into the second half of the 2017-18 season.
Liverpool FC have struggled with many defensive issues under Brendan Rodgers and his successor Klopp since Jamie Carragher’s retirement.
Simon Mignolet has failed to convince since his move to Anfield in 2013 after Rodgers signed the Belgian to replace Pepe Reina.
Klopp brought in Loris Karius to provide competition for the Belgian, but the German shot stopper has struggled to usurp Mignolet.
Liverpool FC could delve into the January transfer market for a new goalkeeper.
Former Newcastle striker Shearer believes the Reds should be prepared to pay over the odds for a new shot stopper in January.
“When they try to sign a goalkeeper, they’ll find out the same thing,” Shearer told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“They need to sign a goalkeeper but whether they will do that in January or in the summer. Clubs know they’re desperate.”
Liverpool FC signed four players in the summer transfer window to improve their squad depth ahead of a return to the Champions League.
The Reds will also signed Naby Keita in a £48m deal from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.
