Jamie Carragher has warned Liverpool FC supporters that Alisson Becker will need some time to adapt to the Premier League.

The Reds were linked with a move to sign a shot stopper throughout the 2018 summer transfer window following their Champions League final disappointment.

Loris Karius made two big mistakes in Liverpool FC’s 3-1 loss to the La Liga giants to miss out on a first trophy under German head coach Jurgen Klopp.

Alisson established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in Serie A after the Brazilian replaced Wojciech Szczesny as AS Roma’s number one.

The 25-year-old was Brazil’s first-choice goalkeeper at the World Cup and acquitted himself well despite losing to Belgium in the quarter-finals.

Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher defended Klopp’s decision to make South American Alisson the most expensive goalkeeper in the world.

“I’m not saying that on the back of the Champions League final but it’s something myself and Gary (Neville) have said so often on Monday Night Football,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“Simon Mignolet and Karius are good goalkeepers but not great goalkeepers. That’s not to say the guy they have signed is a great goalkeeper. It’s a great price – a world-record price – and when you pay that type of money you are expecting a top goalkeeper, but he will be new to the Premier League so let’s see how he adapts.

“He looks cool and calm on the ball and that’s what Klopp wants from his goalkeeper, but they were areas that had to be rectified and it looks like most of them have been. So at this moment, on paper, Liverpool do look the strongest challengers.”

Liverpool FC started their summer spending with the £39m addition of Brazilian midfielder Fabinho from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

The Reds further bolstered their midfield options following Naby Keita’s £48m switch from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.

Liverpool FC landed Switzerland international Xherdan Shaqiri in a cut price £13.5m from relegated Stoke City last month.

The Merseyside outfit will start the new Premier League campaign with a home clash against West Ham United.
