The Reds boss promoted 24-year-old goalkeeper Loris Karius to become his number one goalkeeper over the past month or so.
The German shot stopper has acquitted himself well over the past few weeks after his inconsistent form since moving to Liverpool FC in 2016.
Simon Mignolet has been first-choice at Anfield for most of the past five and a half seasons but the Belgian forward has struggled to convince Liverpool FC fans.
The Reds haven’t had a world-class goalkeeper since Pepe Reina was allowed to leave the Merseyside outfit under Brendan Rodgers’ management.
Liverpool FC singed Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk in a club record deal from Southampton in the January transfer window.
Former Chelsea FC captain Wise believes Liverpool FC need to sign a new goalkeeper to go to the next level.
“It is one position where Liverpool lack,” Wise told The Debate on Sky Sports.
“It has always been a slight problem for them. It is a position they need to address at some stage.”
The Reds were 5-0 winners against Porto in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash in Portugal on Wednesday night.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to secure a return to the Champions League.
The Merseyside outfit will host Porto in the return leg of the tie on Tuesday 6 March.
