Steven Gerrard has conceded that he expect Emre Can to leave Liverpool FC in the summer.

The Germany international’s future has been a source of relentless debate over the past few months as the versatile midfielder edges closer to a possible free transfer at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old has less than six months remaining on his current Liverpool FC deal and Jurgen Klopp hasn’t been able to convince Can to sign a contract extension at the Anfield outfit.

Serie A giants Juventus have been heavily linked with a swoop to sign the former Bayern Munich midfielder in the summer when Can could conceivably be a free agent.

Can scored one goal and won a second-half penalty in a man of the match performance in Liverpool FC’s 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.

Former Liverpool FC captain Gerrard admitted that he is losing hope that Can will be a Reds player at the start of the 2018-19 Premier League campaign.

“I probably expect him to go because he’s been asked the question many times and if he decided he wanted to stay at Liverpool, everyone would know that by now,” Gerrard told BT Sport.

“You still have that little bit of hope as a Liverpool fan that he might change his mind but for it to go to the back-end of January is a concern.”

Liverpool FC signed Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton in the January transfer window.

The Reds ended a two-game losing run with their 3-0 win against Huddersfield on Tuesday night.
