Duncan Castles claims Jurgen Klopp convinced Fabinho to move to Liverpool FC ahead of their rivals this summer
Duncan Castles has shed light on the role that Jurgen Klopp played in Liverpool FC’s signing of Fabinho.
The Brazil international moved to the Reds in a £40m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in the 2018 summer transfer window.
Fabinho has signed a long-term deal with the Merseyside outfit despite being previously linked with Manchester United.
The 24-year-old helped AS Monaco to reach the Ligue 1 title ahead of Paris Sint-Germain in 2017-18 season.
Fabinho has played in a holding midfield role in recent months, but the South American can also fill in at full-back.
Reporter Castles has shed light on the role that Klopp has played in securing Fabiho’s signature this summer.
“Liverpool have done some incredible work here,” Castles told the Transfer Window podcast.
“He has been chased by PSG, Man City, Man United and Juventus.
“All of them have had a go at signing him. Liverpool got in quickly. They have been working on this deal for monhts.
“Klopp was involved in meeting Fabinho in person and selling him his vision. After meeting Klopp, Fabinho told his agent to cancel talks with other clubs.
“This was the club he wanted to move to.”
The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table after finishing the season with a 4-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.
Liverpool FC lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final after Karius made two mistakes in Kiev.
The Merseyside outfit were 4-0 winners against Brighton and Hove Albion in their final Premier League game of the campaign.
